Last Minute Information for Travelers and Parents

from Pinterest
Sunday Prior to Leaving
All students need to bring their two large suitcases to school on Sunday, March 17, at 1 p.m.  Everyone will need to bring what they plan to take in one of the suitcases.  Once at school, we will divide the items between the suitcases and add supplies to fill each suitcase.  Put what you need for the night in DC in your carry on bag.

All liquids going through checked baggage should be put in zip-locked baggies to avoid spills.  Any liquid you are carrying in your carry on bag MUST be 3 oz. or less and must be in a zip lock bag.  When going through security, this bag must be taken out and put in a bin.

Day of Flight Information
Chaplain Rob will be leaving along with the Warrens on Friday, March 15 to prepare things for us in Africa.  Mrs. Muncy and her family will be leaving the same day as the group (Monday) but will arrive in DC on an earlier flight.  She will organize shuttle transportation to and from the hotel.  She will also make final arrangements for dinner that evening for the group.

After arriving in Denver, students will be given $10 to help purchase food.

Once on the Ethiopian plane, each seat has a USB port and each seat will accept the use of your own earbuds/earphones.  Vegetarian meals have been ordered for the entire group.

Passports will be divided up amongst the adults and will be given to each student when needed at the airport and then returned to that adult.  When going through customs, each student under 18 will be given a copy of their Notarized Parental Consent Form.  They will not show this paper unless asked for it.  Mrs. Muncy will hold onto the other copy.

Communication While in Africa
There are several ways to keep up to date with those on the trip.  The hotel offers WiFi.  Tablets are easier to secure than a computer.  The school/adults will NOT be held responsible for any electronics/cameras/phones, etc.  It's up to the individual what they bring.

Data use with the phone is extremely expensive.  Phone calls will cost plenty as well.  It is up to each family whether or not a student takes their phone and how they use it.  If they send photos via text, that uses data and costs.  Again, the school will NOT be responsible for any expenses incurred with a phone.  The best things is to purchase an international phone card to use at pay phones.  If absolutely necessary, a student may use one of the staff phones, however the cost of that call must be paid by the student/family.

Daily Itinerary

We will plan to leave the hotel each morning after breakfast for either the construction site (15 minutes away) or the medical site.  We will meet back at the hotel to get cleaned up and have dinner at 4 p.m. so we can be ready to start the Evangelistic and VBS programs which will run from 5-6:30 p.m.  Once we get back to the hotel, we will have a debriefing meeting with everyone and have snacks.

Excursion Days:  First excursion day will be to Victoria Falls (staying on the Zambia side).  Besides seeing the FAlls, w will have the opportunity to do other activities as well.  Our second excursion day will be the safari in Botswana.

It is recommended that each person bring $100-200 for spending money.
